General FAQs
Will it hurt?
People are often surprised by how comfortable osteopathy is at About Backs & Bones.
We use techniques which vary from being extremely gentle to a little firmer, depending
on the cause of the pain. For example, if muscles are tight, and need deep massage
then this is sometimes slightly uncomfortable but we work within your pain threshold
and vary treatment accordingly. We also treat people in extreme pain and babies
and children who will not tolerate some techniques, so gentle methods of treatment
are used.
Will I have to undress?
This concerns many people and does not need to be a problem at all. At ‘About Backs
& Bones’ we are trained to look at posture, muscle tightness, strain and movement
restrictions and we gain more information if you are undressed to your underwear
or wearing shorts. However, you need to be comfortable and if you prefer to wear
a gown provided or bring thin, loose clothing, or shorts/leggings then we can still
work effectively.
How long does a treatment take?
Your first appointment includes a thorough health questionnaire as well as tests
and treatment and takes 1 hour. Follow-up treatments take 30 minutes although occasionally
you may need to allow a little more time.
How much does it cost?
In 2011 we frize our prices so we currently charge £45-£50 for an initial appt,
which includes assessment (history-taking and examination) and treatment, and £35-£38
for a follow-up treatment session (2011). For exact up-to-date prices, please call
01332 553332 or email via the contact page on this website.
You can be reassured that we are comparable with other osteopaths and as much as
50% cheaper than other musculo-skeletal specialists in the area. If you consider
the impact of your pain on your life it is a small price to pay and many of our
patients say they wish they had sought treatment earlier, which usually results
in speedier effects too. We accept both VISA & Mastercard debit/credit cards
.
