Electrotherapy includes both ultrasound and interferential treatment. Each have their benefits and are useful adjuncts to osteopathy. At About Backs & Bones we do not use electrotherapy alone –instead we find it most effective when used within an osteopathic treatment (at no extra charge).
Ultrasound
This is most useful for:
- Ligament injury
- Tendon injuires
- Joint capsule strain
- Scar tissue
Acute muscle strains are treated more effectively with interferential treatment, whereas chronic muscle damage with scar tissue responds well to ultrasound.
Interferential
This is most useful for:
- Pain relief
- Muscle stimulation and relaxation to aid healing
- Increase local blood flow to aid healing
- Reduction in swelling
Muscles respond well to this treatment as well as pain that is taking a while to resolve.
