Mel
Mel understands that life can be difficult and there may be times when you could benefit from talking to an approachable counsellor. She works with clients collaboratively using the exploration of the challenges or issues faced, to work towards empowerment for change. Mel specialises in neurodiversity (ASD/ADHD) and offers a therapeutic space for children, young people, and adults to develop self-awareness and coping strategies.
Mel works with children and young people and understands the presented behaviours are a form of communication. She helps improve their emotional literacy which enhances their educational experience and wellbeing. To enrich the sessions, she uses play and creative resources, if relevant, to allow exploration of experiences and emotions.
Mel is a qualified integrative counsellor who is committed to offering a safe, non-judgmental, and confidential space to allow you to explore your thoughts and feelings. As every client is unique she will draw upon different approaches which will be personalised to suit you.
Mel’s background consists of working for 15 years in an SEN school which specialises in autism. More recently she supports pupils and offers family support to schools within an academy. This involves emotional, behavioural, and social difficulties the children and young people may be struggling with, which could be impacting their education and well-being. As well as working in private practice Mel volunteers with two charities: a national bereavement charity and a local charity which supports people affected by sexual abuse and rape. Mel also has experience of working with issues such as (but not limited to) disordered eating, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, conflict, and relationship difficulties.
